COMEMORAÇÃO DO DIA DO PAI
Olá! Bem-vindos!
FATHER'S DAY CELEBRATION
Hello! Welcome! This week, on Thursday to be precise, Portugal celebrates Father's Day. So, I decided to write a short story about a conversation between two fathers. To understand the context of this short story, I have to take a trip back in time, as this story was written a few years ago. It is a very entertaining social and political critique!
A few years ago, I applied for a job at a local council through a public competition. In Portugal, these types of competitions are a complete joke, because what they really want is to employ friends and family members of local councillors.
The mayor's daughter also applied for this competition, and of course she was the one who was selected! Later, I also learned that the vice-mayor's daughter was also selected in a tailor-made competition, which was fraudulent! In fact, the daughters were exempted from doing an internship and were immediately hired as permanent staff.
So, this short story is about a conversation between the Mayor and his Vice Mayor. In this conversation, they decide on the details of hiring their daughters. It is, of course, a satirical conversation, in which I ridicule local politicians.
EU É QUE SOU O PRESIDENTE
I AM THE PRESIDENT
THE END

That's how those in positions of power in Portugal decide! I hope you enjoyed this Father's Day short story about how they do everything to spoil their children! This story was written to be published in a newspaper on Father's Day, but it never saw the light of day, until today!

As the soundtrack for this post, I chose the song by Depeche Mode: ‘Everything Counts’, which I think needs no explanation, just listen to it.

Olá! Bem-vindos, meus caros amigos e leitores!
Hello! Welcome, my dear friends and readers! For a long time, I have wanted to dedicate a post to the story of a great Portuguese man: Aristides de Sousa Mendes. To do so, I needed to visit his House Museum in Carregal do Sal (Portugal). But who was this distinguished figure, you may ask?
Aristides S. Mendes was a Portuguese diplomat. He was Portugal's consul in Bordeaux at the time France was invaded by the Germans during World War II. Contrary to the orders of the then Portuguese dictator, Aristides issued around 30,000 visas to Jewish refugees, allowing them to escape the horror of the Holocaust via Portugal and flee to the United States.
This act of humanity saved 30,000 lives, but this gesture of great altruism and self-sacrifice did not earn him the glory and honour that only great heroes deserve. The Portuguese dictator consigned him and his family to oblivion and poverty. He died poor and ostracised, all for daring to defy the dictator's orders. Aristides only did what his heart and conscience told him to do! He chose to be for life!
His house was in ruins, but it was rebuilt and Aristides' memory was restored, with him being considered a national hero, posthumously. The work was funded by the American grandchildren of the Jews that Aristides saved. This post was supposed to have been photographed at his House Museum, but I admit that, not because of Aristides, but because of the recent actions of the Jewish people, I refused to make that visit, perhaps at another time, when peace is consolidated between Jews and Palestinians.
Life presents us with many challenges, some of which define our entire lives, changing the path we had envisioned for ourselves. But if this sacrifice was made out of love for others and for what we believe is right in our conscience, then it is worth taking that risk, even if the price was very high. History will take care of justice!

As the soundtrack for this post, I chose the song ‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries. Please be aware that the video is violent and contains images from various wars, but it focuses mainly on images from the film Schindler's List. This film tells the story of a man who saved thousands of Jews from death, just like Aristides Sousa Mendes. A reflection on the main victims of war! And how Aristides' life also deserved a film!

I wonder how it was possible for this to happen again, ironically to a people who carry the memory of genocide in their DNA! I pray that peace will be lasting!
In this post, we embark on a journey that transcends the boundaries of economics and culture. Exploring the unlikely symphony between a broke bank, Miró's captivating canvases, the Art Deco splendor of Casa de Serralves (Serralves House) and the inquisitive melody of Lana del Rey. Anyone visiting Portugal must visit Casa de Serralves, one of the country's most important cultural centers. Come with me!
The Casa de Serralves (1944) located in Porto, is indeed a gem of Art Deco archicture. The style is characterized by geometric shapes, ornate detailing and a blend of modern and classical elements. The House features a pink façade, decorative reliefs, and symmetrical lines. The used of curved and straight lines reflects the geometric aesthetic of Art Deco. The garden harmonize with Art Deco style, incorporating geometric patterns and modern landscaping elements. The Casa de Serralves is a live architectural testimony of history.
As for my look, I also wanted it to be the materialization of the Art Deco style. Where the geometric shapes of the coat form a harmonious puzzle between me and the walls of the House, creating a visual symbiosis between my style and the graphic contours that define the spaces. Where the transparency of my look represents the windows that tear through the walls. Where the shapes of my body, like a living sculpture, merge into this aesthetic narrative. My look is not just a stylistic choice, but a poetic conversation with the spaces of Casa de Serralves.

Today, as you know, is The International Women's Day! Without wanting to fall into the cliché conversation about, still, inequalities between Men and Women, I want to talk to you about what I read, about this day on a blog, a few years ago. The author of this blog said about International Women's Day that for her, simply, this day did not exist! It did not make sense to mark the date because she had everything in her life and did not feel any kind of discrimination against men and, therefore, the date was quite simply a day like any other!

Até hoje nunca me respondeu!
She continued with this type of conversation and how wonderful her life was blah blah blah !! I was astonished by what I was reading, a text full of selfishness and that only showed ignorance towards the lives of many women in Portugal and around the world. Certainly she was a woman who lives in a glass bell jar on one of those avenues in Lisbon, and who doesn't know the real country and ... the world. I didn't restrain myself and commented on everything I thought she should be aware of, since she was not showing it. To this day, she never answered me! this is the women's world in Lisbon's rich avenues! I'm fine, the rest of you f@ck of!!! For all the women of this country and all over the world, I wish you a Happy Women's Day and, never let your voice be silenced!!
