look Nº 634 - The Story of a Ste@ling!

A história é a seguinte:

No more The Pandemic Diary, the delays in vaccination, the coronavirus ... a new controversy broke out in Portugal, and this is nothing less than a stealing, yes, a stealing! Did I already catch your attention? The story is as follows:

The American stylist Tory Burch has a sweater on sale on her website that according to her was a Mexican inspiration. Theft!! Crime!! Because this sweater is not an inspiration of the stylist, but a shameless sweater copy from the handicrafts of a Portuguese fishing community in the city of Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal!

Custa 90€!!! Mas, a história ainda não acabou aqui!!!

The Portuguese state, through the Ministry of Culture, has taken legal action to combat the abusive appropriation of the folk sweater by the American stylist. A lawsuit was filed in a court in New York to demand damage reparation to Portuguese culture. But, the most curious thing has to do with the price at which this sweater is being sold on the Tory Burch website, as you can see in the photo the sweater costs 695 €, do you know how much it costs in Portugal? It costs 90€!!! But, the story is not over yet!!!

 Tory Burch Website

The American stylist has already apologized for what happened and made the respective correction on the website, saying it was an inspiration for a Portuguese sweater. As you can see in the photo, the real Portuguese handcrafted sweaters. Now I ask you, do you think the sweater is an inspiration or a copy ??

  9. This is the way how they make very easy money, even they have done a crime.

You look so gorgeous in a sweet dress with lace. These Wisteria flowers are so awesome. They grow here, but they are not plenty.

    Take care, Marisa!

  10. WOW! That really IS a scandal! That was clearly a very brazen theft, and then they lied about it.
    What nerve!
I am glad that the Portuguese Ministry of Culture is standing up to and shaming the thieves,
not letting them get away scot-free with their brazen theft.
They need to be deterred from doing that kind of thing again.

I love the look of that Elizabetta Franchi Lace Mini-Dress!

  12. I can't believe it, the sweater is an exact copy. It clearly wasn't inspired by the Portuguese sweater, but the whole design was stolen. It is terrible that there are designs who steal from other cultures. I hope this Portuguese community will win in court.
    Thank you for sharing this.

You look fantastic in this outfit. Love the pop of red!

  13. Can't believe, such story!
That sweater is exactly the same of the Portuguese one, no doubt!
I'm not againt using traditional designs for fashion, it's good to share different art and cultures around the world, but at least say it right!
I'm glad that the government stand still for this appropriation, that could be a lesson for everyone!
Very nice and modern outfit, Marisa, you always are on trend!

  22. I like the bold colourful dress, the pink and red are cute together! :)

That top does look like a very expensive copy or your traditional top! I think it's nice and natural to be inspired by other pieces in fashion, but when you start to make inspired versions of traditional pieces that have a lot of meaning it's not a good idea.

Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! Hope that you have a lovely Easter Sunday :)
