Apresento-vos o Castelo de Ourém, a sua história remonta ao séc XII, durante o reinado do 1º Rei de Portugal, sendo uma fortificação militar destinada a proteger território, a sua localização estratégica permitiu a defesa contra os invasores, mouros inicialmente, mas mais tarde e depois de muitas obras, permitiu a defesa contra as invasões francesas. A história de Portugal e a deste castelo estão entrelaçadas. Não foi só uma estrutura defensiva, mas um símbolo de poder e prestígio. Diversos reis e nobres estiveram associados a este castelo. Mas houve um que se destacou e se tornou Santo da Igrela Católica!
Meet Ourém Castle in Portugal! Its history dates back to the 12th century, during the reign of the 1st King of Portugal. It was a military fortification designed to protect the territory. Its strategic location allowed it to initially defend itself against Moorish invaders, but later, after much work, it was able to defend itself against French invasions. The history of Portugal and this castle are intertwined. It was not only a defensive structure, but also a symbol of power and prestige. Various kings and nobles have been associated with this castle. But there was one who stood out and became a saint of the Catholic Church!
Apresento-vos o Santo Condestável - D. Nuno Álvares Pereira - nasceu em 1360 e foi um dos mais ilustres militares da história portuguesa. Comandou as tropas portuguesas em diversas batalhas e numa série de conflitos que culminaram com a independência de Portugal face a Espanha. A mais famosa batalha foi a de Aljubarrota, onde com um exército significativamente menor, conseguiu derrotar os espanhóis, só mesmo por milagre conseguimos esta vitória... mas com a inteligência deste estratega militar e ao mesmo tempo homem religioso, o que nos parece um paradoxo aos olhos de hoje!
Meet the Holy Constable - D. Nuno Álvares Pereira - born in 1360, he was one of the most illustrious soldiers in Portuguese history. He commanded Portuguese troops in several battles and in a series of conflicts that culminated in Portugal's independence from Spain. The most famous battle was that of Aljubarrota, where he managed to defeat the Spanish with a significantly smaller army. Only by a miracle did we achieve this victory... but with the intelligence of this military strategist and at the same time religious man, which seems a paradox to us today!
Hoje, o Castelo de Ourém é um lugar turístico, o castelo oferece uma viagem no tempo. Ao explorá-lo, os visitantes podem reflectir sobre os milagres de D. Nuno e a sua habilidade em vencer batalhas aparentemente impossíveis. Resumindo, o Castelo de Ourém não é apenas um dos mais belos castelos de Portugal, mas um símbolo duradouro da resiliência e coragem dos portugueses ao longo dos séculos.

Inspirada na vida deste Santo Guerreiro que venceu batalhas impossíveis com fé, coragem e determinação, enfrento a minha doença com um sorriso rasgado. Assim como ele superou adversidades com poucos recursos, acredito que posso vencer esta luta, mantendo a esperança e a perseverança. A história deste Santo lembra-me que, mesmo nos momentos difíceis, é possível encontrar força e alegria para seguir em frente!
Inspired by the life of this warrior saint who won impossible battles with faith, courage and determination, I face my illness with a smile on my face. Just as he overcame adversity with few resources, I believe I can win this fight by maintaining hope and perseverance. This saint's story reminds me that, even in difficult times, it is possible to find the strength and joy to keep going!

Cada look estava perfeito para o calor, cores vibrantes e tecidos leves. Mas, como diz o ditado, o homem planeia e o tempo ri! Foi assim que começou e, os dois primeiros looks são a prova disso, apesar das mudanças climáticas inesperadas, mantive o humor - e o estilo, claro! Hello, and welcome to another fabulous Looks of the Week post! This week, I've put together 6 great looks for hot summer days. Each look was perfect for the heat, vibrant colours and light fabrics. But, as the saying goes, man plans and weather laughs! That's how it started and the first two looks are proof of that, despite the unexpected weather changes, I kept my humour - and style, of course! I decided to hold out hope for the weather and chose a light skirt and tee, which are actually a co-ord I took out of the wardrobe. Immediately, my vision of a sunny stroll turned into a search for a blazer that would make a perfect match.

As the week progressed, the weather changed drastically, forcing me to adjust my choices. A música chama-se "Kill Everything" de Deborah Dyer, vocalista da banda Skunk Anansie, é um grito de alerta sobre as escolhas devastadoras que a humanidade faz em tempos de guerra. Quando reflectimos sobre os actuais conflitos na Ucrânia e em Gaza, o refrão desta música "Kill everything you love" assume um significado profundamente doloroso e revelador.
Welcome, my dear readers and friends! Finally we have a post with a soundtrack, because the theme is so revolting that I need a song to reinforce the message I want to convey. The song is called "Kill Everything" by Deborah Dyer, lead singer of the band Skunk Anansie, and it's a warning cry about the devastating choices humanity makes in times of war. When we reflect on the current conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, the chorus of this song "Kill everything you love" takes on a deeply painful and revealing meaning.
Na Ucrânia, a invasão russa trouxe um nível de destruição que parece desafiar qualquer lógica de amor ou compaixão. Cidades inteiras reduzidas a escombros, famílias separadas, a esperança substituída pelo medo constante. Em Gaza, a contínua violência entre israelitas e palestinianos perpétua uma história de ódio e vingança, onde vidas inocentes são ceifadas e o futuro melhor difícil de vislumbrar. Cada bombardeamento, destrói famílias, comunidades e o refrão da música repete-se. É uma escolha trágica que mata qualquer semente de amor, paz e dignidade em nome de uma guerra sem fim à vista!

In Ukraine, the Russian invasion has brought a level of destruction that seems to defy any logic of love or compassion. Entire towns reduced to rubble, families separated, hope replaced by constant fear. The dreams of generations shattered and all that remains is to kill everything you love!
In Gaza, the ongoing violence between Israelis and Palestinians perpetuates a story of hatred and revenge, where innocent lives are taken and a better future is hard to see. Each bombing raid destroys families and communities, and the chorus of the song repeats itself. It's a tragic choice that kills any seed of love, peace and dignity in the name of a war with no end in sight!

Enquanto o mundo assiste a estas tragédias, devemo-nos inspirar e agir de maneira diferente. Somente assim, poderemos honrar a humanidade que reside em cada um de nós e trabalharmos juntos para um mundo mais justo e pacífico.

Eu sinto a obrigação de falar nestes assuntos, já que tenho uma porta aberta para o mundo virtual, espero que quem não goste deste tema, ou se sinta ofendido de alguma forma que comente e diga o seu ponto de vista, não faça como outros que covardemente deixam de seguir este blog! These wars I've been talking about are a painful reality that reminds us that there is still a lot for humanity to evolve and learn in terms of coexistence and mutual respect. I feel obliged to talk about these issues, since I have an open door to the virtual world. I apologise for only presenting you with 5 looks, I had intended to present more, but what happened was that I had a very busy week and I didn't manage to achieve my goal. Recentemente, uma reportagem de jornalismo de investigação revelou a dura realidade do financiamento dos medicamentos disponíveis para combater a Paramiloidose em Portugal - doença de que padeço - A doença apresenta-se inicialmente com sintomas leves que podem ser parcialmente controlados com o medicamento Tafamidis - comprimido diário - Este medicamento , é um estabilizador da proteína TTR que o fígado produz excessivamente. Ele custa 62 000€ por doente. No entanto, o Tafamidis não é uma cura definitiva e apenas retarda a progressão da doença. Eu tomei este medicamento durante 5 anos!
Recently, an investigative journalism report revealed the harsh reality of funding for the drugs available to combat Paramyloidosis in Portugal - a disease I suffer from - The disease initially presents with mild symptoms that can be partially controlled with the drug Tafamidis - a daily tablet - This drug is a stabiliser of the TTR protein that the liver produces excessively. It costs 62,000€ per patient. However, Tafamidis is not a definitive cure and only slows down the progression of the disease. I took this drug for 5 years!
Quando a doença se agrava, afectando orgãos vitais como o coração, rins, intestinos, membros inferiores, os doentes são transferidos para um segundo tratamento mais eficaz, um inibidor da proteína TTR, o Patisiran. Este tratamento custa 120 000€ por doente. A lógica financeira actual do sistema de saúde português prefere adiar este tratamento mais eficaz devido ao seu custo elevado, forçando os pacientes a passarem por um calvário de complicações antes de receberem o medicamento adequado.
When the disease worsens, affecting vital organs such as the heart, kidneys, intestines and lower limbs, patients are transferred to a second, more effective treatment, a TTR protein inhibitor, the Patisiran. This treatment costs €120,000 per patient. The current financial logic of the Portuguese health system prefers to postpone this more effective treatment due to its high cost, forcing patients to go through an ordeal of complications before receiving the right medicine.
A política de contenção de despesas acaba por ser um tiro pela culatra. Enquanto se economiza ao adiar o tratamento mais eficaz, o Estado acaba por gastar mais em intervenções secundárias, como implatanção de pace-makers, tratamento de insuficiência renal e tantas outras complicações. Além disso, a deterioração da saúde dos doentes muitas vezes resulta na perda da sua capacidade laboral, o que gera um impacto económico e social ainda maior.
The policy of containing expenditure ends up backfiring. While saving money by postponing the most effective treatment, the state ends up spending more on secondary interventions, such as the implantation of pacemakers, the treatment of kidney failure and many other complications. What's more, the deterioration in patients' health often results in them losing their ability to work, which has an even greater economic and social impact.
Uma luz no fim do túnel parece ser um novo medicamento administrado através de injecções trimestrais, evitando as longas sessões hospitalares de administração intravenosa a cada 3 semanas, que o segundo tratamento exige. No entanto, apenas sete pacientes em Portugal estão actualmente a receber este medicamento. O mais alarmante é a existência de uma lista de espera para o segundo tratamento, não por falta de medicamentos, mas devido à insuficiência de recursos nos hospitais, como cadeiras, salas e pessoal especializado!! A sério!!
A light at the end of the tunnel seems to be a new drug administered through quarterly injections, avoiding the long hospital sessions of intravenous administration every 3 weeks that the second treatment requires. However, only seven patients in Portugal are currently receiving this drug. The most alarming thing is that there is a waiting list for the second treatment, not because of a lack of medication, but because of insufficient resources in hospitals, such as chairs, rooms and specialised staff!!! Seriously!
Este contraste com outros países europeus, onde os doentes são tratados desde o início com os medicaments mais eficazes, é desolador. É triste ver que, enquanto os nossos governantes gastam recursos de maneira ineficente, muitas pessoas sofrem e são forçadas a emigrar para obter o tratamento e a valorização profissional que merecem!
This contrast with other European countries, where patients are treated from the outset with the most effective medicines, is heartbreaking. It's sad to see that, while our rulers spend resources inefficiently, many people suffer and are forced to emigrate to get the treatment and professional development they deserve!
Esta situação levanta uma questão crucial: por que o Estado Português não investe mais na saúde das pessoas, prevenindo a progressão da doença e evitando custos maiores no futuro? É imperativo que haja uma reavaliação das prioridades no financiamento da saúde, colocando a qualidade de vida dos doentes em primeiro lugar. É necessário um sistema de saúde que realmente responda aos problemas e necessidades dos seus cidadãos, garantindo um tratamento adequado e oportuno para todos. Mas ao que parece agora vamos ter que gastar mais dinheiro com a defesa! A guerra espreita! E, muitos oportunistas ganham milhões com a desorganizaação que grassa nos hospitais e suas administrações! Tenho dito!
This situation raises a crucial question: why isn't the Portuguese state investing more in people's health, preventing the progression of the disease and avoiding greater costs in the future? It is imperative that there is a reassessment of priorities in health funding, putting patients' quality of life first. We need a health system that really responds to the problems and needs of its citizens, guaranteeing appropriate and timely treatment for all. But it looks like we're now going to have to spend more money on defence! War is looming! And many opportunists are making millions from the disorganisation of hospitals and their administrations! I have said it!
