Sejam muito bem-vindos meus caros amigos e leitores! Neste post, tenho mais um trabalho para vos apresentar em ponto cruz. Este trabalho foi inspirado na arte sacra popular de uma região de Portugal chamada Vale do Sousa. Nesta região, a arte sacra não era feita por artistas profissionais, mas por pessoas comuns, que por terem obtido graças por intercedência de santos os presenteavam com obras que elas próprias concebiam, eram obras singelas mas carregadas de significado. Este meu trabalho em ponto cruz é também uma homenagem a um santo que me concedeu uma graça e esta foi a minha forma de agradecimento! Mas já vos conto o porquê!
Welcome, my dear friends and readers! In this post, I have another cross-stitch piece to present to you. This work was inspired by the popular sacred art of a region in Portugal called Vale do Sousa. In this region, sacred art was not made by professional artists but by ordinary people who, having obtained graces through the intercession of the saints, presented them with works that they designed themselves, simple but full of meaning. My cross-stitch work is also a tribute to a saint who granted me a grace and this was my way of saying thank you! But I'll tell you why!
Capela de Santo Amaro da Boiça / Chapel of St Amaro da Boiça
Lembram-se que quando parti o pé e tive que andar 9 meses com ajuda de canadianas? Partir um pé com a doença que eu tenho é um problema grave! Tão grave que o relatório final do médico dizia que eu nunca mais poderia andar sem ajuda das ditas canadianas. Não me conformei com este relatório! Sendo eu católica, resolvi fazer um pedido a um santo para que fizesse um milagre de eu poder andar sem qualquer ajuda. Fiz o pedido ao Santo Amaro que é conhecido por curas de maleitas relativas aos pés e à mobilidade. E ele concedeu-me essa graça, eu ando sem canadianas! Milagre!
Do you remember when I broke my foot and had to walk for nine months with the help of crutches? Breaking a foot with the disease I have is a serious problem! So serious that the doctor's final report said that I would never be able to walk again without the help of these crutches. I didn't accept this report! Being a Catholic, I decided to ask a saint for a miracle so that I could walk unaided. I prayed to St Amaro, who is known for curing foot and mobility ailments. And he granted me this grace: I can walk without crutches! Miracle!
Eu fiz a seguinte promessa ao Santo Amaro, eu lhe ofertaria 2 pães em forma de pés e os iria colocar na sua humilde capela. Mas, eu curada que estava, esqueci-me de pagar esta promessa. Dois anos se passaram. Até que certo dia veio-me à cabeça esta minha falta tão grave. O Santo Amaro é conhecido por levar tudo muito a sério e quem lhe fica a dever, mais cedo ou mais tarde, será castigado. Sem mais demoras coloquei-me dentro do carro e fui encomendar os pães em forma de pés, no momento em que saí do carro forma-se no céu um maravilhoso arco-íris e eu fiquei extasiada. Foi um sinal de felicidade do Santo Amaro, disso não tenho dúvidas! E, é precisamente um arco-íris o motivo principal do meu bordado de ponto cruz!
I made the following promise to St Amaro: I would offer him two breads in the shape of feet and place them in his humble chapel. But, cured as I was, I forgot to pay this promise. Two years passed. Then one day my grave fault came to mind. St Amaro is known for taking everything very seriously and anyone who owes him will be punished sooner or later. Without further ado, I got into the car and went to order the breads in the shape of feet. As soon as I got out of the car, a marvellous rainbow formed in the sky and I was ecstatic. It was a sign of happiness from St Amaro, of that I have no doubt! And a rainbow is precisely the main motif of my cross-stitch embroidery!

Vamos passar à descrição do bordado:
Debaixo de um grande arco-íris está um puzzle, esse puzzle conta a história do Santo Amaro. Este Santo fez uma grande viagem pela Terra à procura do Paraíso, andou de barco, erigiu igrejas e capelas por onde passou, ofereceram-lhe flores etc. Esta é a parte do puzzle onde todas as peças encaixam. Depois existem peças de puzzle soltas que são a chave para desvendar a quem esta homenagem se destina. Imagfinem agora que não sabem a que santo me refiro.
- A peça preta em forma de pessoa, é o próprio santo que se veste de preto.
- A peça de puzzle que contém as letras AO, O alfa e o omega, o princípio e o fim de todas as coisas. Estas letras são respectivamente a primeira e aúltima letra do nome AmarO.
- A peça do puzzle que contém um peixe, conta a lenda so Santo Amaro e porque é que ficar a dever uma promessa a este santo é muito mau porque ele castiga os faltosos. Certo dia, um pescador não conseguia pescar nenhum peixe, pelo que promete ao Santo Amaro se pescasse um grande peixe oferecia-lho. E pescou um peixe enorme. Mas, estando o pescador cheio de fome diz para si: "sabes santo Amaro eu estou cheio de fome pelo que vou comer o teu peixe"! E, nisto peixe salta de novo para o mar e o pescador ficou sem peixe. Por isso, qualquer dívida a este santo tem de ser paga, senão...
- A peça do puzzle com 2 pães em forma de pés. Sabe-se que no fim do arco-íris está um pote de ouro, ora o meu ouro foram os meus pés ficarem curados e eu ficar a andar sem ajuda de canadianas.
- Finalmente, a peça de puzzle de cor vermelha, esta tem 2 peças de puzzle douradas com o meu nome e o da minha mãe, temos laços de sangue. Estas peças faziam parte de uma prenda que recebi no Natal, oferta das minhas primas Nivea e Andreia, resolvi colocá-las aqui, uma vez que nós também fazemos parte deste puzzle e como estamos ligadas nesta vida terrena.
E, assim está completo este puzzle!
Let's move on to describing the embroidery:
Under a big rainbow is a puzzle, this puzzle tells the story of St Amaro. This saint travelled the earth in search of paradise, travelled by boat, built churches and chapels wherever he went, people offered him flowers, etc. This is the part of the puzzle where all the pieces fit together. Then there are loose puzzle pieces that are the key to unravelling who this tribute is for. Now imagine that you don't know which saint I'm talking about.
- The black piece in the shape of a person is the saint himself dressed in black.
- The puzzle piece containing the letters AO, the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end of all things. These letters are respectively the first and last letters of the name AmarO.
- The puzzle piece that contains a fish tells the legend of St Amaro and why owing a promise to this saint is very bad because he punishes those who fail. One day, a fisherman couldn't catch any fish, so he promised St Amaro that if he caught a big fish, he would give it to him. And he caught a huge fish. But as the fisherman was starving, he said to himself, ‘You know, Saint Amaro, I'm starving, so I'm going to eat your fish’! So the fish jumped back into the sea and the fisherman ran out of fish. So any debt owed to this saint must be paid, or else...
- The puzzle piece with 2 breads in the shape of feet. It's known that at the end of the rainbow there's a pot of gold, but my gold was that my feet healed and I was able to walk without the aid of crutches.
- Finally, the red puzzle piece, which has two golden puzzle pieces with my name and my mother's, we have blood ties. These pieces were part of a gift I received at Christmas from my cousins Nivea and Andreia, and I decided to put them here since we are also part of this puzzle and since we are connected in this earthly life.
And so this puzzle is complete!
Quanto ao meu look, escolhi um blazer com uma franja de linhas que simboliza as linhas com que bordei este episódio da minha vida!
As for my look, I chose a blazer with a fringe of threads that symbolises the threads with which I embroidered this episode in my life!
