Look nº 335 - How I spent my Birthday!

Eu ainda não vos contei como passei o meu dia de aniversário. Neste dia nunca trabalho e aproveito sempre para passear. E, este ano escolhi ir visitar o Mosteiro de Santa Clara a Nova em Coimbra. Neste mosteiro está sepultada a Santa Padroeira da cidade de Coimbra a Rainha Santa Isabel. A imagem que se vê nas fotos e por detrás da imagem podem ver o seu túmulo de prata e cristal. Esta rainha foi casada com o Rei Português D. Dinis (1279-1325). O seu milagre mais conhecido é, segundo reza a lenda, O Milagre das Rosas, esta rainha sempre auxiliou os mais pobres e desfavorecidos, e certo dia ao levar pão para os pobres, carregava esse pão no regaço do seu vestido, foi interpelada pelo seu marido, o rei D. Dinis, que lhe perguntou o que ela levava no regaço, ao que ela respondeu - são rosas meu senhor!!! - E o Rei perguntou - Rosas em Janeiro? - e abriu-lhe o regaço para confirmar o que ela levava, e miraculosamente o pão transformou-se em rosas!!! A Rainha Santa Isabel de Aragão morreu no dia 4 de Julho, dia das festas da cidade de Coimbra realizadas em sua memória. É feita uma grande procissão, e as meninas pequenas vão vestidas de Rainha Santa em sua homenagem!!!

I haven't told you how I spent my birthday. On this day I never work and I always take the time to walk. And, this year I chose to visit the Monastery of Santa Clara a Nova in Coimbra. In this monastery is buried the Santa Patroness of the city of Coimbra the Queen Santa Isabel. The image you see in the photos and behind the image you can see her tomb of silver and crystal. This queen was married to the Portuguese King D. Dinis (1279-1325). Her most famous miracle is, according to legend, The Miracle of Roses, this queen always helped the poorest, and one day bringing bread for the poor, carrying that bread in the lap of her dress, was questioned by her husband, King D. Dinis, who asked her what she carried in her lap, to which she replied - they are roses, my lord! "And the King asked," Roses in January? " - and opened her lap to confirm what she carried, and miraculously the bread turned into roses !!! Queen Isabel de  Aragão died on July 4, the festivity day of the city of Coimbra held in her memory. A great procession is made, and the little girls are dressed as Queen Santa in her honor !!!
