Look Nº 878 - The Theory

 Olá! Bem-vindos meus caros amigos e leitores! O tempo em Portugal já não é como eu o conhecia. É um facto indesmentível que tem mudado bastante! Antes, tinhamos uma Primavera de sol e calor, agora temos depressões atrás de depressões, num ciclo que se repete entre 2 dias de sol, 5 de chuva. É como o tempo andasse baralhado e nós também! Os meteorologistas já chamam a este fenómeno o carrossel de depressões!

Hello and welcome, my dear friends and readers! The weather in Portugal is not what it used to be. It is an indisputable fact that it has changed a lot! Before, we had a spring of sunshine and warmth, now we have depression after depression, in a cycle that repeats itself between 2 days of sunshine, 5 of rain. It's like the weather is all mixed up and so are we! Meteorologists are already calling this phenomenon the carousel of depressions!

Estas fotos que vos vou apresentando são tiradas nos raros dias de sol! E, depois temos estas ironias do clima: este fim de semana, em Portugal, o céu apresentou-se sempre cinzento, enquanto em Inglaterra estavam 27 graus celcius. Inacreditável. Normalmente são os ingleses que procuram o sol de Portugal para as suas férias, agora se calhar temos de ser nós a ir atrás do sol deles!

 

These photos I'm showing you were taken on the rare sunny days! And then there are these ironies of the weather: this weekend, in Portugal, the sky was always gray, while in England it was 27 degrees celcius. Unbelievable. Normally it's the English who seek out Portugal's sunshine for their vacations, now maybe we'll have to go after their sunshine ourselves!

Vivemos num planeta vivo e, essa é talvez a verdade mais desconcertante. O planeta Terra reage, adapta-se, transforma-se. Às vezes de forma lenta, outras vezes de forma abrupta. Não sabemos se esta mudança é uma evolução natural ou uma destruição silenciosa. Mas que de certeza é uma resposta à forma como temos vivido, disso não tenho dúvidas e, vocês o que acham?

 

We live on a living planet and this is perhaps the most disconcerting truth. Planet Earth reacts, adapts and changes. Sometimes slowly, sometimes abruptly. We don't know if this change is a natural evolution or a silent destruction. But I have no doubt that it is a response to the way we have been living, and what do you think?

Tenho a certeza que já ouviram falar numa teoria - Teoria das Placas Tectónicas -  que diz que há muitos milhões de anos os continentes estarem todos ligados num único continente, a sua separação terá sido a evolução do planeta, nessa época não havia a poluição que há nestes dias, logo terá sido uma evolução natural do planeta e feita muito lentamente. Logo a pergunta que se impõe à luz desta teoria, é: será que o planeta está a evoluir ou está a dar os primeiros sinais de que está a ceder, será que este equilibrio em que temos vivido se está a quebrar e de uma forma muito rápida? Uma coisa é certa,  se nós não mudarmos, ele muda por nós e nem sempre da melhor maneira!

 

I'm sure you've heard of a theory - Tectonic Plate Theory - that says that many millions of years ago the continents were all connected, their separation was the evolution of the planet, at that time there wasn't the pollution that there is today, so it was a natural evolution of the planet and done very slowly. So the question that arises in the light of this theory is: is the planet evolving or is it showing the first signs of giving way,  could it be that this balance we've been living in is breaking down, and very quickly? One thing is certain: if we don't change, it will change for us, and not always in the best way!
