Look Nº 880 - Music for all!

Yesterday were the legislative elections in Portugal, at the time of writing this post I don't know anything about who won them! The purpose of these elections is to choose the party or parties that will support a government and who will be appointed Prime Minister! I can't say that the electoral campaign was extraordinary or very enlightening, but I do think that they gave us a lot of music!!! I don't know if you know what I mean!!!

Proof that this country is in a bad way. It can be found in an everyday gesture that reveals a lot about the way we live, and I bet you don't even realise it when you do it! Have you noticed that when we withdraw money from the ATM, only 10 euro notes come out? Rarely do 20 euro notes come out! The 10 note is the second lowest note in our monetary system!!! Have you realised what a cheap song they're giving us?

This simple gesture may seem unimportant, but I can tell you that you're sorely mistaken! This fact says a lot about the way we live. In other European countries, the notes that normally come out of ATM machines are 50 euro notes! To our shame and that of those who have governed us for 51 years of democracy, we haven't managed to move on from this fate of poverty wages and expensive living costs! Low salaries have to be managed very well to make it to the end of the month. What this means is that the Portuguese have no money to withdraw from ATM machines, that's what!!! And do you like this song?

What's most curious, or sad, depending on your point of view, is that when this happens it's urgent to question the economic model, wage policies and the way we value - or devalue - labour in Portugal! And yes, this song is really bad!!!

10 euros is proof that the Portuguese are living on the edge of financial survival!
I hope an ambitious government emerges from these elections, because being the country of a thousand euro salary and 10 euro notes smells a lot like... funeral music!

  1. I agree that the 10 euro note is not symbolical, but a sign of economic collapse. Maybe I'm a pessimist, but for the last 15 years or so, I've had this feeling that the West is going toward an economical collapse.
Another important proof of economic crisis is the immigration of people. This has been going on in Portugal for years, and in some European countries (Croatia included) as well. This is a sign of a very serious trouble. When people can't make a decent living in their own country, it's a problem.

    1. Portugal is not a country for young people, they can't buy a house because the prices are outrageous, they can't even pay rent, and even if they have a university education their value is not recognised. So, as you say, they're forced to flee! It's not a country for old people either, pensions are below the level that allows you to live with dignity. The Portuguese are very peaceful, so they accept this situation as a fate from which they have no escape. But there is a sign of discontent in society: the radical right had its biggest vote ever, which is not a good sign either! Without the support of the United States, Europe will be much closer to collapse than we realise! Well, it's better to live one day at a time and not think too much about how the world is going!

  7. You're right, Marisa. Here, too, wages haven't risen as much as rents and the cost of living. More and more people are living below the poverty line. Often, these are families with children. The situation is sad.

Your long dress is beautiful, I love the colors. The photos are great.
I wish you a very nice new week

    1. It's very sad when a family can't fulfil its basic needs of food, education and health! When that happens, society is sick!

  14. Hi, dear Marisa, there are several things I wanted to discuss related to your topic, hope I won't forget them or I'll have to come back 😜
First of all, I hope the elections went well there and those that won will do good for your country. I don't know if you heared even if if you probably did because it made the news in many countries, there were the presidential elections in Romania, my country of origin and one of the candidates is a lunatic, pro Russia and pro Putin, intended to take out Romania from EU, a far right extremist with a hatred speech. He went to a tv channel in France and called Macron, France's president a dictator, said that France was having economic problems and was getting poorer and a bunch of idiotic and offensive things.
I live outside Romania for almost 20 years now and never mengled in Romania's politics because I wasn't going to go back and it didn't seem right to me to vote and decide for them but in this case I was horrified and really afraid for what was going to happen. I got involved in campaining for the other candidate, an olympic winner in maths who had a PhD at the Sorbonne but who was seriously at risk because the other one received twice the votes he got ik the first run. In the the good prevaled because many great and important people got involved but those weeks were tremendous.
Sadly, there no one used good music in the campaigns, it was very stressfull. I couldn't wrapp my head on anything else more than a few minutes.
As for the 10 € note, that sounds peculiar but actually in Italy there are almost 2 years now or wven longer that the ATM gives almost only 20€ notes. I heared people saying that it happened because the only money in circulation were the small cuts because the people kept the money cash under the matress but it sounded quite exagerated to me. Anyway, there are great things going on on world's economy and not necessarely good things maybe that's where they got the inspiration for the song you mentioned.
Hugs dear, wish a beautiful week!
