look nº 370 - Tricana - Students Love!

Há muitas mulheres famosas em Coimbra, eu própria sou uma delas, cof cof cof!!! Eu já vos falei de uma - A Princesa Cindazunda - neste post aqui, esta era uma mulher da realeza, mas hoje quero-vos falar de uma mulher do povo, muito famosa em Coimbra, a TRICANA. Mas, para vos dizer quem era esta mulher, tenho que vos contar outra história. Coimbra é uma cidade universitária. A Universidade de Coimbra foi fundada em 1290, mas a primeira mulher a estudar na universidade entrou no ano 1891!!! Foram muitos séculos sem a presença feminina na universidade. O que é que acontecia, os estudantes,  homens, vinham de todas as regiões do país para estudar em Coimbra, como não tinham colegas do sexo feminino, namoravam as Tricanas, que eram, afinal, as raparigas (eu sei que em português do Brasil esta palavra tem outra conotação, mas quer dizer o mesmo que garota em Portugal) casadoiras do povo.

There are many famous women in Coimbra, I am one of them of course, cough cough cough !!! I've already told you about one - The Princess Cindazunda - in this post here, this was a royalty woman, but today I want to tell you about a woman of the people, very famous in Coimbra, the TRICANA. But to tell you who this woman was, I have to tell you another story. Coimbra is a university city. The University of Coimbra was founded in 1290, but the first woman who came to study at the university entered the year 1891 !!! It was many centuries without women in university. What happened, students, men, came from all regions of the country to study in Coimbra, as they had no female colleagues, they dated the Tricanas, who were, after all, the marriageable girls of the town.

 Os estudantes galanteadores juravam o seu amor pelas tricanas e elas ficavam perdidamente apaixonadas, digamos que ficavam pelo beicinho pelos estudantes, porque quem vinha estudar para a universidade eram os melhores filhos da nação, nobres, que apenas queriam das tricanas umas noites de amor, nada mais, muitos filhos nasceram destas relações de nobres com plebeias, filhos que não eram reconhecidos!!! Uma espécie de relação entre o Príncipe Harry com a Meghan, mas neste caso o final foi feliz (durante quantos anos é que eu não sei, mas tenho um feeling que não vão ser muitos!!!).

The gallant students swore their love for the tricanas and they were hopelessly in love, let's say they were drooling over for them, because those who came to university were the best sons of the nation, nobles, who only wanted a few nights of love, nothing more, many children were born of these relations of noble with plebeian, children who weren't recognized !!!A kind of a relationship between Prince Harry and Meghan, but in this case with a happy ending (for how much time I don't know, but I have a feeling that will last a short time !!!).

 Mas, esta relação dos estudantes com as tricanas não era pacífica, pois os estudantes tinham rivais, os FUTRICAS, que eram os rapazes do povo, que esses sim, gostavam realmente das tricanas, mas facilmente eram trocados pela boa prosa dos estudantes. Havia muitas disputas entre estudantes e futricas pelas mais belas tricanas!!! Mas, a sorte das tricanas tinha um final à vista, com a entrada das mulheres na universidade, os estudantes passaram a namorar as colegas de curso e bye bye tricanas!!!

But this relationship between the students and the tricanas wasn't peaceful, since the students had rivals, the FUTRICAS, who were the boys of the people, who in fact, really loved the tricanas, but they were easily trade up for students' fine prose. There were many fights between students and futricas for the most beautiful tricana!!! But, the luck of the tricanas had an end in sight, with the entrance of the women in the university, the students began to date their classmates and bye bye tricanas !!! 

Para homenagear estas mulheres foi feita esta escultura, está situada numa pequena praça, muito procurada pelos turistas, tem alguns cafés e bares e a Casa de Fado de Coimbra (que falarei noutro post) Fado ao Centro. Como devem imaginar foi muito difícil fotografar aqui com tantas pessoas a ver e com tantas a querer fotografar a tricana. Eu tentei recriar o look de uma tricana moderna, uma saia bastante rodada, uma casaquinha em vez do xaile, o cordão de ouro, e uns óculos em forma de coração, que representa o amor da Tricana pelos estudantes. Bom, eu continuo à procura do meu estudante, porque no Tinder só há futricas, prosa não têm nenhuma ahahahah!!!

To honor these women was made this sculpture, it's located in a small square, much sought after by tourists, there are some cafes and bars and the Fado House of Coimbra (which I will tell in another post) Fado ao Centro. As you can imagine it was very difficult to shoot here with so many people watching and with so many wanting to photograph the tricana. I tried to recreate the look of a modern tricana, a pretty round skirt, a little coat instead of the shawl, the gold necklace, and heart-shaped glasses that represent the Tricana's love for the students. Well, I keep looking for my student, because in Tinder there are only futricas, prose have none ahahahah !!!
