Olá! Bem-vindos, meus caros amigos e leitores!
🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍
Hello! Welcome, my dear friends and readers! Today's post is special and inspired by this quote from Selma Lagerlöf!
‘Culture is everything that remains after you have forgotten everything you have learned.’
I must say that I write for the world, not just for my country. I write for all those who, in different geographical locations, carry within themselves the richness of what we call culture. Culture defines peoples, differentiates them, but also brings them together. In other words, it can both unite and separate them, depending on how we choose to look at it.
I confess: for a moment, I felt afraid. But I soon realised that this fear was not real, but rather the result of the unknown. It is natural that what we do not understand arouses prejudice. However, Sikhs are known for their spirituality and for being peaceful. That moment is proof that when a culture is unknown, it can be misinterpreted.
History has its ironies. It was we, the Portuguese, who discovered the sea route to India centuries ago, bringing with us a different view of the world. Now, history has been reversed: it is they who come to us, bringing their colours and their way of life.
And this is where Selma Lagerlöf's quote comes into its own: culture is what remains when everything else fades away. It survives political borders, economic crises, wars and distances. It shows us that, despite our differences, we share something in common – the desire to live in peace, to build a shared future with meaning and respect for all peoples.

Finally, culture is memory and it is future. It is what distinguishes us, but also what can unite us. If we choose to look at diversity not as a threat, but as an opportunity. And thus, we take a step towards a fairer, more tolerant and more humane society! This is called social transformation! A cultural renaissance!
As this is a special post, because it's my 900th outfit post, it has to have a soundtrack by my favourite band - Muse! I chose the song ‘New Born’ because, in a way, it talks about awakening, opening your eyes, being reborn into this new reality in Portugal. Because every encounter with the Other is always a possibility for a new cultural birth. Or not! There you go, it all depends on how we view different cultures, whether we accept them or confront them!*

* In fact, this song expresses fear of technological evolution and digital alienation, but I adapted the metaphor of the newborn to the fear that different cultures can instill in people who are unfamiliar with them and, in a way, to the alienation that this can cause in these people who are unable to integrate into the countries to which they emigrate.
Congratulations on your 900th outfit post! Such a great message you are sending us! Awesome photos! & I love MUSE too! It's always great to know of different cultures. I see more fusion of foods lately, too. Oh, what a cool necklace you are wearing by the way! Thank you for your friendship and comments! All the best to you and your blog❤️

I love the way you choose and integrate important topics, real food for thought in each of your posts. Yes, new and different is met with a certain reticence and sometimes even resistance because we haven't had experience with it but as soon as that happens and we discover a new culture, a new world opens in front of our eyes.
ResponderEliminarI kinda sensed where you were going with this post as soon as I saw your pictures on Insta, the goodness in you glows from your pores and after reading this post, it is a true confirmation.
waowww very beautiful
ResponderEliminarYou beautifully connect the dots between that brief encounter, the historical irony of the Portuguese-Indian connection, and Selma Lagerlöf's quote. The idea that culture is the enduring essence that bridges those differences, fueling a shared desire for peace and respect—is a powerful and hopeful thought. Thanks for sharing this! You look beautiful in the different shades of white. Have a wonderful week ahead.
ResponderEliminarBoa quinta-feira com muita paz e saúde, minha querida amiga Marisa. Parabéns pelo número 900 e também pelo seu look, ficou muito bonita, parabéns.
