Gestures that make a difference!

Desafio 1+3 - Tema: Gestos Que Fazem a Diferença

Challenge 1+3 - Theme: Gestures That Make a Difference
This Portuguese city - Tomar - could be the scenario for one of the Dan Brown adventures, it's a Templar city, many centuries ago the Knights of the Order of Christ went to the Crusades.

Here, every four years, for me, is the most beautiful Portuguese party - The Feast of Tabuleiros - is a party that surrounds the whole city. The streets are closed to traffic and its residents gather several months earlier to make paper flowers to decorate the streets, all that you see is paper and everything done by people's hands. They are gestures that make all the difference.

Each street chooses a theme, for example 4 seasons street, music street, etc. And, everyone wants your street to be the most beautiful. The city is partying for several days, but the main day is the Cortege of the Tabuleiros.

Eu e o meu tio/Me and my uncle

The Tabuleiro is a basket carried by a woman, of any age and is accompanied by her father, or boyfriend, brother, friend. The Tabuleiro carries bread (30) and is decorated with paper flowers, carries about 300 flowers and weighs between 15 and 18 kg. It's a feat to take the Tabuleiro throughout the cortege, about 5km.

The center of the procession is in Praça (square of) da República where the Tabuleiros are blessed by the Bishop, the third ring of the bell of the Church of St. John Baptist the Tabuleiros are raised all at the same time, it's one of the high moments of the party and a moment of rare beauty .

On this day the city is invaded by thousands of people coming from all over Portugal and around the world. The festival this year was a candidate for Unesco's Cultural and Intangible Heritage. This year, 748 Tabuleiros participated in a grandiose and very beautiful Procession, in which all the Tomar Philharmonic bands participate, the scouts, and it's finished by a pair of oxen, which were formerly slaughtered for their meat to be distributed among the poorest, as well as the Bread from the Tabuleiros.

The photos I publish don't show the real beauty of this whole party. The next will be held in 2023, if you can don't miss it, you will be amazed with so much beauty and with the involvement of the Tomarians who so proudly make their party.

An important advice, if you can go, go on Saturday, you can see the streets adorned at night and watch the fireworks at midnight. On Sunday you avoid walking for miles and miles on foot, because with the city closed to traffic and with the buses invasion you will have to leave your car far away and have to go on foot. If you go only on Sunday, the day of the procession, you will come as soon as possible to get as close to the city as possible. Then until 2023, I'll be there again !!! Do you like to know this Portuguese Party? Tell me everything in the comments, I'll love to read !!!

I chose this floral dress in honor of the manual work that makes such beautiful flowers.

Bjs
