Look Nº 782 - God Loves Only You!

 Bem-vindos à minha Jornada Mundial da Juventude! Eu também fiz a minha peregrinação, não a Lisboa, mas ao Templo Ecuménico Universalista que fica em Miranda do Corvo, no sopé da Serra da Lousã, bem lá no alto, tocando o céu de Portugal. Para lá chegar, algumas tormentas temos de passar, sim, porque subir até ao cimo da montanha, os últimos 2 kms são feitos por um caminho em terra batida e sempre a subir, com algumas subidas bem íngremes. Confesso que tive medo, mas o sofrimento da viagem foi compensado com a vista maravilhosa e com o significado de uma união das diversas religiões de todo o mundo, juntas e unidas, representadas neste templo que está aberto a todo o tipo de crenças.

Welcome to my World Youth Day! I also made my pilgrimage, not to Lisbon, but to the Ecumenical Universalist Temple in Miranda do Corvo, at the foot of the Serra da Lousã, high up in the sky of Portugal. To get there, we had to go through some storms, yes, because to climb to the top of the mountain, the last 2 kilometres are made by a dirt road and always uphill, with some very steep climbs. I confess that I was afraid, but the suffering of the journey was compensated with the marvellous view and with the meaning of a union of the various religions of the whole world, together and united, represented in this temple that is open to all kinds of beliefs.

A mensagem principal deste Templo é a da compreensão, tolerância e respeito entre as diversas religiões do mundo. O não há guerra religiosa, será a principal mensagem! Um pouco como o que as Jornadas Mundiais para a Juventude e a Igreja Católica também defende. Este diálogo ecuménico foi aprofundado com a inclusão de ateus e agnósticos. Esta foi a minha peregrinação nesta Jornada Mundial da Juventude!

 

 The main message of this Temple is that of understanding, tolerance and respect between the various religions of the world. No religious war will be the main message! A bit like what the World Youth Days and the Catholic Church also advocate. This dialogue between religions has been deepened by including atheists and agnostics in this Ecumenical dialogue. This was my pilgrimage in this World Youth Day!

When the sublime, the universal and the humanist is transformed into barbarism

O Templo tem a forma de uma pirâmide, é um local onde vamos propositadamente num gesto de vontade pessoal, na busca da espiritualidade, da nossa verdade. O Templo tem as dimensões do Templo de Salomão construído no séc. XI AC, em Jerusalém. Trata-se de um Templo aberto a todas as formas de espiritualidade ou sagrado pessoal. A entrada no recinto, no exterior, é feita por um portão entre duas colunas de pedra. De cada lado 2 frases escritas: "A paz é a nossa aspiração" e "É no teu coração que descobres o caminho para a sabedoria e a compaixão". A construção do Templo obedece a muito mais regras que não vou descrever aqui exaustivamente.

 

 The Temple has the shape of a pyramid, it is a place where we go on purpose in a gesture of personal will, in search of spirituality, of our truth. The Temple has the dimensions of the Temple of Solomon built in the 11th century BC in Jerusalem. It is a Temple open to all forms of spirituality or personal sacredness. The entrance to the enclosure, on the outside, is through a gate between two stone columns. On each side are two written phrases: "Peace is our aspiration" and "It is in your heart that you discover the path to wisdom and compassion". The construction of the Temple obeys many more rules that I will not describe exhaustively here.

*Truth

Eu acredito num Deus único, um Deus da Vida. Deus de todos os homens de todas as raças e um Deus de todas as coisas. Fui introduzida a Ele através da Igreja Católica, mas isso é apenas um pormenor. Eu não acho que o Deus dos Católicos seja superior ao Deus dos Islâmicos, ou hindus. Eu não tenho a pretensão de que o meu Deus me ama só a mim, mas ama cada um da mesma forma e na sua individualidade, pobres, doentes, indianos, africanos, etc. etc. etc.

 

I believe in one God, a God of Life. God of all men of all races and a God of all things. I was introduced to Him through the Catholic Church, but that is only a detail. I don't think the God of the Catholics is superior to the God of the Islamics, or Hindus. I do not claim that my God loves only me, but loves everyone equally and in their individuality, poor, sick, Indian, African, etc. etc. etc.

Esta é a frase atribuída a Galileu que foi proibido pela Inquisição de defender que a Terra se movia em torno do Sol. Em 1633 foi condenado a prisão perpétua, tendo escapado à morte, pois negociou com a Inquisição dizendo que estava errado. No entanto, à saída do Tribunal terá dito esta célebre frase "Eppur si muove" (Contudo ela move-se). A presença de Galileu tem o objectivo de recordar o positivismo científico e afirmar que nenhuma crença, fé, incluindo as certezas científicas, podem silenciar a busca da Verdade pela ciência. Muito mais haveria a dizer sobre este Templo, mas desafio-vos a fazerem esta peregrinação. Uma peregrinação sobre: Liberdade de crer e de não crer! Liberdade da Alma!

 

 This is the phrase attributed to Galileo who was forbidden by the Inquisition to argue that the Earth moved around the Sun. In 1633 he was sentenced to life imprisonment, but escaped death because he negotiated with the Inquisition saying he was wrong. However, on leaving the court he is reported to have said the famous phrase "Eppur si muove" (However it moves). Galileo's presence is meant to recall scientific positivism and to affirm that no belief, no faith, including scientific certainties, can silence science's search for Truth. There is much more to say about this Temple, but I challenge you to make this pilgrimage. A pilgrimage about: Freedom to believe and not to believe! Freedom of the Soul!

 

Nesta peregrinação escolhi como look, um conjunto pijama, todo ele desenhado com os símbolos do Zodíaco. Os astros também fazem parte, ou fizeram parte, da espiritualidade de muitos povos. Em especial o Sol. Se tiverem oportunidade de visitar este local, podem assistir ao pôr do sol que é magnífico visto do interior do Templo.

 

For this pilgrimage, I chose a pyjama set, all designed with the symbols of the Zodiac. The stars are also part, or were part, of the spirituality of many peoples. Especially the Sun. If you have the opportunity to visit this place, you can watch the sunset that is magnificent seen from inside the Temple.

O Papa Francisco deixou mensagens poderosas de inclusão e tolerância, não vou falar nelas uma por uma, porque acho que isso é um trabalho interior de cada um. Saliento, ainda, que o Papa se reuniu com vítimas de abusos sexuais na Igreja Católica, silenciado por muito anos e por muitos Papas. Por isso deixo-vos um video, que aviso tratar-se de um video violento, mas assim têm sido as relações entre as diversas religiões. A mensagem principal é a de que ninguém tenha a pretensão ou o egoísmo de pensar que Deus nos ama só a nós católicos, ou só porque temos uma vida boa e saúde, porque Deus testa-nos a todo o momento, na nossa força e na nossa fé! Como diz o Papa Francisco: Deus ama a TODOS, TODOS! A Humanidade! Que na nossa vida tudo façamos para não dar sentido a esta letra da música:

Pope Francis has left powerful messages of inclusion and tolerance, I will not go into them one by one because I think that is an inner work of each one. I also emphasise that the Pope met with victims of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, silenced for many years and by many Popes. So I leave you with a video, which I warn you is a violent video, but this is how relations between the various religions have been. The main message is that no one should be pretentious or selfish enough to think that God loves only us Catholics, or only because we have a good life and health, because God tests us all the time, in our strength and in our faith! As Pope Francis says: God loves EVERYONE, EVERYONE! Humanity! May we do everything in our lives not to give meaning to these lyrics:
