Olá, bem-vindos meus caros amigos e leitores!
Hello and welcome, my dear friends and readers! Before you know it, we're already at the end of April. Only yesterday it was January, with its promises of new beginnings and lists of resolutions. Now, in the blink of an eye, the days have warmed up, the fields are green and blooming and the calendar moves forward as if it had a life of its own. Time runs and we run after it! Have you noticed that? Or is it just me?
So it's easy to fall into a routine and let the days become indistinct. We work, we eat, we sleep, we repeat. Before you know it, the month has passed. Then the year. Then another year. And, inevitably, we grow old. Not just in body, but sometimes also in soul, if we let ourselves, of course!
But there are ways to counteract this process - not aging, because that is natural and inevitable - but the way we live it. Here are some tips that I try to apply in my own life:
- Ritualize time. Create small weekly or monthly rituals that help mark time. It could be a walk on Sundays, writing a diary at the end of each month.
- Slow down on purpose: Take a moment a day - even if it's just 10 minutes - to stop. Sit down. Breathe. Be present. Time never stops, but you can choose to slow down.
- Be with those who are good for you. Time spent with people we like is more meaningful. Cultivate those bonds. Time flies, but it flies lighter when it's shared.
- Accept and embrace the now. Perhaps the secret is not to stop time, but to live it more consciously. Aging, after all, is also growing up - if we are attentive.
Deep down, time is not our enemy! It does pass without asking permission. If we value what really matters, time stops being something that escapes us and becomes something that transforms us. We can't stop ageing, but we can make every moment important and meaningful. Perhaps that's the closest thing we have to beating time!
What an inspiring text. I agree that time is not our enemy. It doesn't ask permission to pass, that's is true. But we are the ones responsibly with how we're going to use it. Whether we use our time to grow as people or not is our decision. Whether we use time to grow wiser or more foolish is our choice, too. Time is in this sense neutral. It is what we make of it. It is what we make with it. If we learn to respect the time, the time will teach us how to respect ourselves and life. We need to treat time with respect. We are responsible for how we spend time. We are responsible for finding time for our loved ones, for managing time, for finding time for ourselves.
