Welcome to another wonderful blog post. Wonderful because it's actually a story that, despite taking place in a hospital, brings us back to feelings of gratitude and valuing what we have. It's a surprising true story, which I'll tell you about in a moment!

As you know, I'm undergoing treatment in hospital which means I have to spend many hours there. We end up bonding with other people in the same situation. It was on one of these days that I met a Brazilian woman with a cheerful and contagious spirit, a true ambassador of good humour. Emigrated to Portugal, she lifted the spirits of everyone undergoing treatment, but the most incredible thing was yet to happen!

While we were having lunch, I noticed this Brazilian woman taking photos of her plate of food. To put this into context, people who have lunch at a hospital in Portugal have a choice of three dishes: meat, fish or vegetarian. This Brazilian woman's choice was the fish dish, which consisted of a grilled salmon steak. She was so enthusiastic that the photos she took of the salmon were sent to her relatives in Brazil. Curious, I asked her why she was laughing so much!

She replied with a laugh: ‘In Brazil, in public hospitals, the only thing they give you to eat is a horrible soup. Here, with three dishes to choose from, it's like I'm in a hotel! Grilled salmon is a luxury!’

Aquela observação feita pela brasileira deixou-me a pensar!

That remark made by the Brazilian got me thinking! We are often quick to point the finger at the shortcomings of our public health system: the lack of doctors, queues and a feeling of overload are just a few examples. But hearing the perspective of someone who comes from a much more difficult reality is an invitation to gratefully rethink our attitude towards what is on offer in Portugal.

For this Brazilian woman, our National Health Service, even with its limitations, is a true example of excellence. Having access to quality healthcare, which she didn't have access to in her country, and being able to choose between three meals is unimaginable for many, especially for Brazilians who come to work in Portugal!
Coat: Fracomina

This story reminded me that while it's important to demand improvements in health services, it's also important to recognise the good things we have. Sometimes it takes an outsider's view, like that of the humorous Brazilian woman, to remind us that despite the difficulties, there are reasons to appreciate what we already have. Perhaps the real luxury is not just the salmon steak, but the ability to give thanks, even in adversity. So thank you very much to the Figueira da Foz Day Hospital Service for all your dedication to your patients!

Thank you very much!

Hello and welcome to another fabulous Looks of the Week post! In Portugal we talk about nothing else! In cafés, in hairdressers, on social media and on the telly, the topic dominates every conversation, Curious? Cristina Ferreira, one of the most influential women on Portuguese TV, launched an Intimate Foam, which immediately became a media hurricane! With this product, Cristina promises to empower women by encouraging them to take care of themselves and feel more confident. But... she was quickly accused of promoting a product that is harmful to women's intimate health. Feminists pointed the finger at it, saying that instead of empowering, it conveys the idea that women have to perfume themselves in order to be desirable. But in the face of all this, the product sells. And it sells a lot! If the intention was to spice up relationships, it seems that some of them have been ruined by so much controversy! What is certain is that Cristina has found an untapped market niche. And get ready, because she's promised more launches in the near future that will challenge backward mentalities! And then don't complain 😁😁😁 And now get inspired by 5 looks that will also be a hurricane in this blogland!

I'm back to wearing these jeans that had been stored away in my wardrobe, and colour is on the rise again. Which just goes to show that fashion is cyclical - what once seemed outdated suddenly becomes trendy again. It's a good thing I never got rid of them, because now, combined with the right clothes, they look like they've come from a new collection!

Olá, bem-vindos meus caros leitores e amigos.

Hello and welcome, my dear readers and friends. How have you been? Today's post is one of those that I love to do, even though I don't do much of it! Objectively, I wish I had more time to devote to this noble activity of reading, but my time doesn't stretch to everything I want to do! As you've already realised, I'm going to review a book I read last year. It's ‘The Lying Life of Adults’ by the Italian writer Elena Ferrante.

Objectively, it's not clear who this writer is, whether she's a woman or a man under a pseudonym, or both. Let's just say she's a mystery figure. She's never been seen in public! Even though we don't know who this writer's real identity is, she is the most acclaimed Italian writer of our time! Having said that, let's move on to the book!

Vou tentar evitar spoilers, ok?

I'll try to avoid spoilers, OK? The plot of this magnificent book tells the story of an Italian family from Naples at the end of the last century. This family has the lying gene in its DNA, everything to keep up appearances. This family story is surprisingly well-written, with the plot taking many twists and turns and surprising us throughout the book. I can assure you that in its 292 pages there are no tedious moments; on the contrary, the reading flows very pleasantly, leaving you hooked on the narrative.

The main character is young Giovanna described here in the transition from adolescence to adulthood. She is completely taken aback by her father when he compares her to the despised Aunt Vittoria whom he loathes so much. From this breaking point, the whole plot develops: young Giovanna wakes up to a world she doesn't know, she undergoes a transformation as she learns her true story. She lives in a world of appearances. Growing pains manifest themselves in the face of an unknown reality and the discovery of the complexities of adult life. Themes such as lies, hypocrisy and our own identity are all issues that come up in the process of this young woman's formation. I could tell you more about the main character and how she copes with this new reality, but I won't, I'll leave it to your curiosity. The disconcerting encounter with the no less disconcerting Aunt Vittoria is a highlight of the plot! The contrast between wealthy Naples and suburban Naples and the contrast between the different social conditions is masterfully described. This contrast is one of the themes developed and explored by this author in her books.

I'm going to say something about the ending of this book, it's an open ending! Very characteristic of this author. I hope and expect that Giovanna's story will be continued in a new book. In the end, many questions are left open, let's say it's more of a symbolic ending and less conclusive, in my interpretation I think young Giovanna chooses the path of truth!

Algumas fotos foram modificadas pela IA /  Some photos have been modified by AI

I hope you enjoyed this review, I'm really looking forward to a new book by this author with the continuation of this story. It looks like there's going to be a series on Netflix, for series watchers!

 SEGUNDA / MONDAY

Normally, I'm not much of a jumper wearer, but when I do decide to wear one, I make sure it has something special about it, I love it either white or very colourful. In 2018,I decided to wear this jumper in a chic evening event. It has a contagious design and energy. In 2025, I wore it in a casual look with jeans and the result was amazing. This more relaxed look, but with a lot of personality, radiates positive energy wherever I go. I think to myself how incredible it is that some items of clothing can stand the test of time and remain stylish, even in different contexts! Don't you think?

Eu acho que continua actual e serve-me perfeitamente!

Querida Eu,

LETTER TO MY PAST SELF

Dear Me,

I remember you, full of dreams and with a heart so pure that you believed in the best in everyone. I remember how you gave your friendship without reservation, how you reached out without a second thought, even to those who would later turn out to be your worst enemies! But that's how you were, an unconditional friend.

But today, I need to tell you something that might hurt you: you were a fool! Not because you liked people too much, but because you believed that friendship was enough to keep people by your side. It's not! You found that out the hard way, didn't you? You saw how the bad character of some people wanted to take advantage of the tragedies in your life. You saw how those who were supposed to protect you turned their backs on you, or worse, tried to use you. What you called friendship, you fool, was nothing more than a game of interests!

But you know what I admire about you? You never let bitterness define you. Even after the betrayals, you remained the loyal friend, the one who never needed to step on anyone to get ahead. You fell, you cried, you felt alone, but instead of giving up, you turned every blow into strength. You became resilient, a rock that carries scars like medals.

You discovered, in the chaos, that absences could become presences. You created a world of your own on the blog, a space where pain was transformed into words, loneliness into virtual connection and fragility into a certain power. And so you carried on, building something bigger, something real, something all your own.

In truth, you were never alone, your mum was always by your side. Your most precious possession, the person who always held your hand and reminded you that life, no matter how treacherous, is always worth facing with a smile.

Today, as I write this letter to you, I look at who you have become and I feel immensely proud. So thank you for never giving up, either on yourself or on life. Because despite everything, you managed to choose the hardest and noblest path. And your smile, far from being a contemptuous sneer, like the one they give you, is the reward of someone who, in the circumstances in which you lived, could have opted for the ease of selling yourself, but you chose to carry on with your head held high and your heart clean. Many predicted your end and rejoiced at the possibility, but here you are, stronger and more alive than ever. Ironically, they are now the fools looking for everything you publish! So smile Marisa. Because that's your greatest triumph!

Love,

Today's Me

To increase the emotional intensity of this post, I've chosen the song ‘Wonderful Life’ by Black as the soundtrack. The melody is very beautiful and the lyrics are in tune with my letter, as well as being aesthetically pleasing! Here are a few passages from the lyrics.

Look at me standing / Olha para mimHere on my own again  /  Aqui sozinha outra vezUp straight in the sunshine / De pé, direita, à luz do sol

They seem to hate you / Eles parecem odiar-te, não, eles odeiam-tebecause you're there / Porque tu estás aí, ainda!
